Do you have boobs on your ceiling? I have nothing against boobs, but I do have a problem with the cheap, builder-grade lights that look like boobs! This is such a simple fix, and you wouldn’t believe how much this small change can elevate a space. If you aren’t sure about the type of fixture I’m talking about, here you go:
You may also have the no-nipple kind like this:
Even if you are renting, there are some easy inexpensive upgrades. First and most importantly, you are messing around with electricity. You need to know where your circuit breaker is and how to turn it off. If you don’t want to switch out the light entirely (which is a very easy thing to do, here is a great video on how to change out a ceiling light) you can remove the glass shade and change the shade out in a fairly easy DIY. You can purchase a drum lamp shade the approximate diameter of your existing boob light, and attach it to the base of the light with zip ties, but some of these lights may not have screw holes to attach to. In that case, you would need to drill some small holes in the base ring. Some lampshades may be able to attach to the center post in the typical boob light, but you will likely have to attach at another point. At this point you may as well just suck it up and buy a new light, there are so many nice ones available for less than $50!

Remember when you change a light out, if the base is smaller than what you had before, you may need to touch up the ceiling around the light, and it isn’t always an easy match, so keep that in mind when you choose your replacement light. And ALWAYS turn off the power first! These are just a few of the lamps I picked from Amazon. Wayfair, Home Depot and Walmart also have some good selections.

I’m in my mid-fifties, recently divorced, with two boys, one who is still at home. I’m great at starting diets…for a few weeks, but the weight always comes back and brings friends. My recent remodel has sparked a love of interior design and I love to help others with their homes.
