Does being an asshole make you a “cool kid”?

486679_471554422866509_10351781_nI’m sure by now you all know about the dickhead from Abercrombie & Fitch.

“He doesn’t want larger people shopping in his store, he wants thin and beautiful people,” Lewis said. “He doesn’t want his core customers to see people who aren’t as hot as them wearing his clothing. People who wear his clothing should feel like they’re one of the ‘cool kids.’”

See the article here.

Funny, my kids (even my 7 year old) look at kids wearing Abercrombie and wonder if they realize it’s NOT cool to wear a brand to try to BE cool.

In this day and age, where bullying is getting worse and worse with all the electronic ways to bully, this asshole is just furthering the hate.

As much as I’d like to say I don’t judge on clothing, I do to an extent. I think we all do. When you see a girl with everything hanging out, you can’t say you don’t judge. Or a kid with his jeans so low his underwear are out. We all make judgements when we first meet people. The key is getting past those initial judgements by giving everyone a chance.

But I have to be honest. From now on, when I see an Aberzombie, I will judge them. By wearing his clothes, they are perpetuating the hate, and that is all I will see in that person. Wearing the brand will now be seen as taking a stand with this jerk Mike Jeffries. This is no longer the “popular” place to be.
